The Illusion Block creates the feeling the color piece is suspended in front of your quilt.
You’ll have to make sure all your blocks are built with similar dimensions to give your quilt a common overall 3 dimensional look.
You might want to experiment with other shapes on the same quilt, but you’ll need to keep the grey strips for each block the same size.
The uniformity is what crates the illusion of the block floating away from the quilts surface.

The video from MSQ is using rectangles and the picture above is squares. Wonder that the measurements for the squares are?
