I think it is time to start getting festive! I love making holiday quilts because they really set an exciting mood for the times and they can be used for years!

The Fourth of July is now, so let’s put our patriotism into a fun and awesome quilting project. The tutorial that goes with this idea is a Periwinkle Mug Rug that are the colors of the American flag so we can use it for any patriotic holiday.

It can also be used for Veteran’s Day and anytime that patriotism comes out!

So, the tutorial is by Jenny with the Missouri Star Quilt Company. As always, Jenny does a fantastic job and she actually uses her old Christmas decorations as inspirations for this.

The mug rug is a small star shaped and can be used for a table topper and all sorts of cool things. Put these around the house on the Fourth of July and we will have such a fun, festive feel instantly.

One thing we may not have handy is the periwinkle template.

I’m sure we can compromise, or invest in one because it will be a great project for any holiday. We will need our basic quilting tools (scissors, rulers, measuring board, rotary cutter, etc.).

Make sure we watch the video on the “Next Page” to get a thorough explanation of things.

I definitely will make a few of mug rugs as christmas gifts. Great idea! They don’t cost that much and take a lot of time to do. I have a of material scraps so I will use them to make them.
